  • Pousada de Valenca do Minho – Hotel Sao Teotonio

The Hotel Sao Teotonio offers magnificent views of the Minho River from its unique setting in the 17th century fortress town

    Description

Superb Views at Hotel Sao Teotonio

Located in the Portuguese border town with Spain, the Pousada Valenca is a luxury hotel in a modern building located within a 17th century fortress which surrounds the old town of Valenca. The Pousada offers superb views over the River Minho, Gustav Eiffel’s bridge linking Portugal and Spain and part of the old fortress walls which have been used over many centuries to protect Portugal from Spanish invaders.

This Hotel Valenca Do Minho has 18 beautifully decorated rooms, some with balconies overlooking the river. All rooms have en-suite bathroom, heating/air conditioning, minibar, telephone, Cable TV, hairdryer, and safe. Some rooms have internet access.

Pousada Valenca in a Picturesque Location

The charming old fortified town of Valenca is accessed by a series of narrow archways leading to the inner fortifications so a small car is recommended. The town’s cobbled streets, picturesque square and abundance of small shops are very popular, particularly at weekends.

There are some good restaurants in Valenca but we highly recommend eating in the Pousada’s own restaurant which offers excellent regional and international dishes.

For more information on the village, the Pousada Valenca and the surrounding area please visit the Valenca page.

    Testimonials

4 testimonials for Pousada de Valenca do Minho – Hotel Sao Teotonio

    1. We stayed here more than 20 years ago, and the place was fantastic again. The staff and dining were excellent On the downside there was no computer for internet connection available and in these times that is an essential. Also there was little or no local information available, and as the tourist office was not open we felt the hotel should have had some available. Again it was wonderful regards Mike & Barbara Rowston

    2. We have stayed here before and always enjoy our stay, the food and the wine are always good, the service is fantastic. Its not designer and modern it has a charm that seems belong to another time and thats its strength. It is perfectly positioned for visiting the town which is a must see and the views ti Tui Spain across the river at night are wonderful. Its well worth a visit!

    3. We last visited Vilança, and stayed at the Pousasa, some 15 years ago. On both occasions we had some difficulty in actually getting to the front door of the hotel- there were not many signs.. A small car is definitely advisable to get through the narow doorways of the fortifications. As was the case the first time, we found the staff friendly and efficient. The interior of the pousada did not seem to have changed much – some may find the furniture and décor rather sombre, but our room, and the the restaurant, had a super view of the Minho and Spain. The local Moncao white wine is definitely worth trying. We found the Pousada an excellent base to visit the Penedes Geres National Park

    4. My wife and I stayed here in October 2013. We found the stay to be incredible. The intriguing drive through the village to the pousada was a great start. The staff were most helpful and engaging. We stayed in room 111 and it was magnificent. The view across the grounds and the river to Spain was breathtaking. The walk across the bridge into Spain was easy and then up to the village of Tui was delightful. We had dinner and breakfast in the dining room which was excellent. The village itself is stunning and a great way to spend a lazy day or two just wandering and looking at the goods on offer. There are many lovely spots to sit and have a cold beer and snack. I could not fault this place. The room was sumptuous, the staff friendly and responsive and the price, considering the luxury was great value.
