Address:
Castelo de Alcácer do Sal
7580-197 Alcácer do Sal
Surrounding area:
- Setubal (60 kms) – An industrious fishing town with a charming old centre. It’s striking 15th century Gothic-Manueline Church of Jesus is recognised as the earliest example of Manueline architecture in Portugal and was described by Hans Christian Andersen as ‘one of the most beautiful small churches I have ever seen.’
- Troia (15 minute car ferry trip from Setubal) – A stunning peninsula with 18 kms of clean, soft sandy beaches, some of the cleanest in Portugal. Although parts of the island are built up you can still find untouched, secluded sandy beaches. There is also an 18 hole Championship golf course and restaurants famous for their seafood.
- Arrabida Natural Park (69 kms) – Stretching to the Atlantic Ocean, the park boasts a spectacular granite ridge and the area is a haven for wildlife. The Portinho de Arrabida, where the Park meets the Ocean, is a sheltered beach with crystal clear waters.
- Lisbon (90 kms) – Europe’s second oldest capital city which oozes history and culture.
- Evora (102 kms) – A UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its well-preserved old town centre. It is partially enclosed by medieval walls and has a Roman temple and many monuments from various historical periods.
We enjoyed two nights here in April and found everything most comfortable and all the staff very helpful and friendly. Just before departing, by chance, we came upon the wonderful archaeological vault exhibition and feel this should be promoted more by the Pousada as no-one would want to miss it.
We stayed here 2 nights. Upon our arrival we received a warm welcome, after check-in we were helped with our luggage and escorted to our room. The room was delightful and had a great balcony with a wonderful view. Just wandering around the castle was a great experience. We were looking for a restaurant and were given a few suggestions, we ended up eating at all suggested and had great meals. The breakfast was good and plentiful. Was sorry that we didn’t try the restaurant at the Pousada as we did try dinner at other ones we stayed and found the food to be excellent. We will return.
Everything was perfect. Reception, restaurant and the room. A great place to go
